We are excited to be ahead of the curve where we are going to be offering our students the incredible chance to be a part of our new virtual school for grades K-12. The students will still be taught grade level concepts and skills, but it will be exclusively online. What is unique about this opportunity is students will be taking pre-assessments at the beginning of each module to determine what prerequisite skills they have mastered and which skills need to be refined. They will be taught the skills from previous grade levels if they have not fully mastered them yet while learning their current grade level skills and concepts at the same time. This letter is to inform the students and the parents of the students who will be participating with our K-12 virtual classroom of the Acceptable Use Policy (A.U.P.). This policy will advise the student(s) and parent(s) of the expectations on performance, behavior, plagiarism, and a release for using any web 2.0 tools needed to complete assignments.
Expectations on performance:
- Students show responsibility by submitting all assignments on time.
- Students are respectful towards their peers and instructors in each module.
- Students are active learners and problems solvers by taking the initiative to seek assistance or by independently researching to solve problems.
- Our K-12 virtual school is dedicated to serving students with disabilities. If your child is receiving special education services, please contact Robert Figuly at 724-944-7798 or by email at [email protected] to ensure your child will still receive services and accommodations stated in their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Behavior of Students:
- Students will respect the rights of their classmates and peers and will refrain from making any race, religion, sex, creed, or national origin comments.
- Students will not use any vulgar or derogatory language towards their classmates or their instructor.
- Students will not sexually harass their classmates, nor will they send profanity, nudity, or gang/hate group texts or images to their classmates.
- Students will not bully or intimidate their classmates.
Plagiarism:
- If a student is caught submitting work that they did not complete they will receive a zero for their first offense on the assignment, and on the second offense they will fail the course.
- There will be random checks to see if students are copying work from other resources and submitting it as their own (SafeAssign).
A release for using web 2.0 tools needed to complete assignments:
- Students will need an Edmodo account.
- Students will need a WeVideo account.
- Students will need a Google account.
- Students will need high speed internet access.
- Students will need a VoiceThread account.
